The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
There are many different views from all around the world today about video games and their effect on our communities and youth. There are those, The Good, who look at how video games are seen as an improvement on a person's learning capabilities and improvement in reflexes. There are also those, The Bad, who see video games as an absolute threat and unhealthy infringement on the youth of today. With these two parties clashing at each other explaining who is right and who is wrong we create a great big mess causing utter confusion among others and stress to some, essentially creating The Ugly.

I remember a story about a little kid who went around his house and shot his family. Then he was wondering why they didn't get up because the characters in his video game always get back up. Sorry I don't have the link but it is a true story. It happened in America. Only in America...
ReplyDeleteIt is fascinating that there are some pros and cons for video games. Because, I am not a fan of video games like you I always thought playing games too much makes you worsen your eyesight and affect your lifestyle in someway. Maybe you should also mention about WII as well but wait maybe it is not qualified as a video game is it? lol Great to see there are benefits out of playing such games.
ReplyDeleteHey James,
ReplyDeleteYeah that really is something that should not be discarded. The fact that a little kid even got his hands on a gun in the first place is even more baffling but yeah that is quite something to hear considering that the kid actually thought he was in a video game. Also quite a scary result after playing video games, especially considering he is a kid even.
Cheers for the comment :)
Hey Wookie,
ReplyDeleteYeah I think that I should have mentioned more thinks about some of the more interactive games such as the nintendo Wii, Xbox Kinect, and even PS3 Move. All these interactive game machines and accessorie are not only exciting, but also benefit people in the sense of health. The Xbox kinect provides games where your body is the controller and so many of the games can work up a sweat but in a more fun and productive way. I know from experience also that PS3's Move and a game called the Fight definitely is like exercising as you have to throw punches and move around when playing the opponent in the game. But yeah thanks for that comment and suggestion!
The Good- Video Games provide stimulation to gamers with the intention to also provide entertainment.(I'm a fan of GT racing games and the whole Sims franchise)
ReplyDeleteThe Bad - On the same not too much stimulation can lead to overobsessive behaviour in which the gamer becomes addictive, and irritable. In such cases like in the US and Japan where gamers known as OTAKU are completely controlled by the game itself and in return base their entire lives around these.
The demand of video games has risen since the first games launched in the late 70's.
Sorry Keegan I needed to voice that! It's a great topic and you have expressed your opinions and known facts very well! :-)
